Bio
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Angela Weaver (Schmitt) enjoys a diverse career as pianist, educator, and business professional. She currently lives in Westminster, where she performs for a variety of events, and teaches students in the Boulder area. Angela loves biking, exploring the beauty of Colorado, and spending time with her family.
Angela’s teaching experience includes public school education, piano pedagogy, community engagement performances, and conference presentations. She is a certified public school educator with extensive experience teaching piano privately and working as a collaborative pianist. She has organized and performed two public school outreach tours throughout West Michigan where she made classical piano literature an engaging and interactive experience for hundreds of K-12 public school students. Angela worked as a graduate assistant instructor at the University of Colorado Boulder from 2019-2021 teaching undergraduate piano courses. She has given state and national conference presentations on teaching students with ADHD, designing sensory-friendly recitals, public speaking, and teaching and learning during COVID 19. Angela was heavily involved in the Colorado Lullaby Project where she worked as a teaching artist, and an advisor and trainer of new artists. Her master’s thesis examines classroom management in group piano; an area that is under-researched in piano pedagogy training programs.
Her career as a soloist and collaborative pianist have allowed her to perform across the USA and Italy. In 2019 she was a National Federation of Music Clubs National Finalist for the collegiate division and winner of the Michigan division. She has also been a featured soloist with the Grand Valley State University Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, and the Jenison Wind Symphony. As a recording artist, she has recorded with FJH and Klavier and is an alumna of the Brancaleoni International Music Festival.
Angela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with Piano Performance from the Grand Valley State University Frederik Meijer Honors College and a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder. She has studied with Dr. Sookkyung Cho, Dr. Jennifer Hayghe, and Dr. Alejandro Cremaschi, and is an MBA Candidate at the University of Colorado, Denver.
